In this blog, we are going to cover the Best Practice for Design of Solar Mounting Structure by securing the structure lifer over 25 years.

As everyone knows in the solar power plant structure play the main role in making the life of the solar plant and for solar project developers.

In India, as per IS (Indian Standard) structure are design to withstand storm and wind speed up to as 55m/s (i.e. approx. 200Kmph). However, the solar market suffers from very high competition after going to lower price bid at Rs.2.44/kWh and to fulfil the competition many installers compromise the stability of the solar structure.

Some of the common factors which will give strengthen the solar structure over the 25 year life period.

  1. Proper Design with Staad Pro as per wind zone condition and dead load Etc.
  2. Use the pre-galvanization structures instead of the section with MS plate and going with hot-dipped galvanization.
  3. Use the proper clamp for fastening the module with structure securing from uplift wind force.
  4. Selection of proper tilt and orientation as per site condition.
  5. Selection of proper fastening solution for the structure as per standard.

Probability factor (K1) = 0.90 Consider 25 Year life at 47 m/s wind speed
Height factor (K2) = 1.00 Height Factor Category 2
Topography factor (K3) = 1.00
Importance factor (K4) = 1.00
Design Wind Speed (Vz=Vz1*K1*k2*k3*k4) = 40 M/S
Wind Pressure = 960 N/Sq.m
Wind directionality factor (Kd) = 1.00
Area averaging factor (Ka) = 1.00
Combination factor (Kc) = 1.00
Design Wind Pressure (Pd) = 960 N/Sq.m (Pa)
Design Wind Pressure (Pd=Vz*Kd*Ka*Kc) = 97.86 kg/Sq.m

Consideration of Tilt angle and pitch distance.

When structure engineer design the structure tilt angle must consider carefully on the basis of location. Moreover when the module orientation is not true south and the tilt angle is not equal to the latitude of the site then power will loss.
