IS SOLAR ENERGY RENEWABLE OR NONRENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCE?
Sun is the source of energy and we are talking about IS SOLAR ENERGY RENEWABLE OR NONRENEWABLE ENERGY RESOURCE? Thus, in recent times, we are experiencing global warming, so people are switching to alternative sources of energy.
However, when we are talking about renewable energy and one thing comes to our mind of sustainable energy – which means that the energy generated by the renewable source is used without harm to the environment.
What are Renewable Energy and Sustainable Energy?
The energy that is produced by natural sources such as sunlight, wind etc. called the Renewable Energy. And the energy that meets the requirements without harm the environments can be used again and again and it’s also available free of cost called the sustainable energy.
There are many sources of renewable energy.
- Sun Energy
- Wind Energy
- Wave Energy
- Geothermal Energy
What is Non-Renewable Energy?
Energy produced from sources such as fossil fuels coal, petroleum and natural gas. These energy sources are not called renewable energy because they have been formed hundreds of millions of years ago and which can not be filled in our lifetime or even many other births.
Now we have cleared about renewable and non-renewable energy, and let’s see the solar energy is the renewable energy source.
What is Solar Energy?
Solar energy is an energy that is made using the sun energy and changes to usable energy. As you all know that the Sun is the source of energy which releases energy in the form of photons.
To meet the demand of global energy, the energy produced by the sun in one hour is sufficient. However, we are only using 0.001 percent of Sun Energy.
The technologies to used for harness the sun energy into solar energy are called the photovoltaic cells. Cells are made of silicon like the semiconductor.
When cells absorb the sunlight, electrons loose from their atoms and these atoms flow in semiconductor and generate the direct current. Multiple cells are making a Solar Panel.
Is solar energy renewable and sustainable?
From above definition of renewable and non-renewable energy, it’s cleared that solar is the renewable energy source. Now we are trying to find out an answer of the solar are sustainable are or not.
As we know the solar panel which is made of multiple solar cells and cells are made silicon and it’s produced the electricity with zero carbon emission. And it’s clear the solar energy are renewable as well as sustainable.
However, there is no doubt many questions about the solar panel manufacturing process, lifecycle, and recycling.
Manufacturing of solar panel
Solar panel made from various elements such as Silicon for the solar cell, Aluminum for panel frame, Copper for wiring which is form from the earth. But that is good news impact of the use of these materials minimal as compared to zero emission of carbon from the solar panel. And manufacturing effect also decreases after introducing the new technology of solar panel by improving the efficiency of the solar panel.
The lifecycle of solar panel
In the general industry thumb rule, the life cycle of the solar panel is 20-25 years linear production and after 20-25 years,at least 80% of the panel rated power is produced.
Above we can see the life of solar panel decreases 20 % after 25 years but experiences show that efficiency drops 7 to 8 % after 25 years. Thus, the lifetime of the high quality of solar panel can reach 30 to 35 years and it’s still functioning afterward.
Recycling of solar panel
Recycling of solar panel based on two type of solar panel.
Silicon-based solar panel recycling
In this process, almost 95% of glass can be reused and all external material such as frame is reused and 85% of silicon material can be recycled for manufacturing the new modules.
2. Thin-Film based solar panel recycling
In this process, approximately 95% semiconductor material can be reused and 90% of glass content is ready for remanufacturing.
Finally, we come out Is Solar energy Renewable or Nonrenewable Energy
We have seen the manufacturing and recycling process of solar panels, so we can save and reuse many metals and minerals involved in solar panels.
Above all explanation ensured about the “solar energy are renewable as well as the sustainable source of energy”.
